Well, it’s Thursday! How are you? Welllll…

Today I want to talk about isolation. Isolation can be good or bad. You isolate yourself to study for a test, to rest, or for peace and quiet. However, when you isolate yourself from community, it’s not good for you. Here are some quotes I found:

“Isolation is aloneness that feels forced upon you, like a punishment. Solitude is aloneness you choose and embrace. I think great things can come out of solitude, out of going to a place where all is quiet except the beating of your heart.” Jeanne Marie Laskas

“Too much self-centered attitude, you see, brings, you see, isolation. Result: loneliness, fear, anger. The extreme self-centered attitude is the source of suffering.” Dalai Lama

The thing about isolation is that it’s intentional. You pull yourself away from others. They use isolation in prison as a form of punishment. Why would you place yourself in a prison of isolation? For example, if you are having an issue and you can’t think of anyone to call because you’d have to answer a question like, “Where you been? I’ve been trying to reach you for two months -” chances are you’re in isolation.

You’ve heard stories about school fights? Many times, they catch the person away from their squad and jump them. That’s the plan of the enemy. He gets you alone, and he fills you with all types of negative thoughts and ideas of defeat, shame, guilt, anger, frustration, etc.

Isolation is NOT your friend. I can attest to the truth of this because I lived it. At one time I was proud of it, but when all of your executive decisions are made from a perspective of depression and loneliness (among other negative emotions), things don’t turn out too well. I now have safety of community. When I’m having “one of those days,” I can easily pick up the phone or send a text and someone will be available for me. That’s a comforting and safe feeling. God created us for community.

Thought for today:

This is a no judgment zone. I’ve been there and done that, but threw away the t-shirt. What I’m asking you to do is please find community. The best thing you can do for yourself is have people who care about you and you care about them.

Community is strength. Community is powerful and a way to build wealth. Not just financial wealth, but emotional wealth as well. Let’s build your wealth. Remember day one – it is not a badge of honor to suffer in silence. Let’s do this work! You can do it!
